In-Home Assistance

Jewish Family Service is proud of its Home Care Program and offers excellent service by our highly qualified staff - a staff that is committed to delivering the best care available. We believe in helping older adults keep their independence by enabling them to function in their own homes with support from our professionals.

Help can be temporary, such as assisting someone just coming home from the hospital who needs time to gain strength, or permanent, for the aging adult who needs daily help. In-home assistance can provide a “friendly face” to support your loved ones with the tasks that have become difficult for them to perform. They can remain happy in their own homes and you will have the peace of mind knowing that they are receiving excellent, professional care.

Our services start with a visit from one of our skilled nurses who assess your home care needs. The needs are then discussed with you, and a homemaking/personal care plan is developed to provide the assistance necessary for successful independence.

Our nurses are experienced professionals who are sensitive to the many client and family issues that may arise. You can trust us to understand your needs and protect your confidentiality.

Technology Solutions for Personal Safety (back to top)

  • Do you worry about your parents’ safety at home?
  • Do you worry about whether someone you love is taking
his or her medications as prescribed?
  • Are you concerned about falling?

Jewish Family Service of the North Shore has several tools available - we specialize in home safety assessments and use the latest technology to help to ease your mind and improve home safety. We offer systems developed by HealthWatch as well as customized home-monitoring systems utilizing “Smart House” technology.

HealthWatch
We have partnered with HealthWatch to provide a variety of technological solutions to assist people with medical conditions so they can live at home while maintaining their independence and safety.

Please contact Daniece Ferrera (978) 564-0771 or daniece@jfsns.org for more information.

Personal Emergency Response System
An inexpensive way to make sure that help is seconds away for any medical emergency, including sudden illness or a fall, the Personal Emergency Response system is a pendant or bracelet that allows the user to send for help anywhere in their home or anywhere within 200 feet of the transmitter. A trained responder is available 24/7 to dispatch emergency services, or to call a caregiver.

Fall Detector
The Fall Detector is worn on the user’s belt and will automatically contact a trained responder if the user falls.

Computerized Medication Dispensing System
This system ensures that the user receives his or her medication on time and correctly for up to 60 dosages. It keeps records of medication use and informs caregivers if a medication is not taken when required. This technology takes the risk out of taking multiple medications on a complex schedule and is extremely affordable.

The Kosher Meals on Wheels Program provides daily Monday-through-Friday delivery of low salt, low sugar Kosher meals to homebound older adults and seniors who currently observe Kashrut. All meals are prepared under rabbinical supervision in the kitchen of the Woodbridge Assisted Living Facility in Peabody, Massachusetts. Program participants are asked to voluntarily contribute $2.00 towards the cost of each meal delivered.

Employment Opportunities (back to top)

In-home care for the aging and people with disabilities is one of the fastest growing career paths in the United States. By the year 2020, more of our citizens will be over 65, than under 65.

Jewish Family Service of the North Shore is a premium provider of in-home care for over 260 (and growing) people a week. We are always looking for candidates for our in-house training program. The Health Education Learning Program (H.E.L.P.) will provide you with the skills needed to be successful in this rewarding profession. A job in home care not only provides income but "makes a difference in someone's life."

If you meet the entry requirements, you are eligible for 80 hours of free* state of the art training to become a Home Care Aid and to come to work for us! Many of our former graduates have gone on to rewarding careers in Home Care, CNA and nursing.

You can H.E.L.P. others and and build your own career by taking our training program. To be considered for the JFSNS team, contact Janice Bourque RN at jbourque@jfsns.org or (978) 564-0772.

* In lieu of payment for the training program, students are screened for JFSNS employment including reference and CORI background checks. Once the student successfully completes the training and hiring process, the student is employed in our Home Care Department. JFSNS will hold onto the certificate until the contracted number of paid employment hours are completed.
